Revisiting RoamResearch: My Second Brain

Hey, it's Sunny from Unocoin. Remember when I raved about RoamResearch?

https://www.sunnyray.ca/blog/2020/9/17/owyip2xbdq1r80xmr7qi29stmzcnut

Three years on, and I'm still hooked. Let's dive back in.

Ever stopped to ponder your second brain? Where do you store fleeting ideas? Or, do you even have one?

Roam isn’t just another app. It’s an idea net. With bi-directional linking, thoughts get interwoven like neurons firing up. It's beyond folders and hierarchy; it's about forging connections.

In the dynamic maze of our minds, how do we capture ideas to revisit later? Roam's the answer for me. Expandable bullet points, powerful search filters, and an elegant way to connect thoughts. It's not about jotting down; it's about weaving thoughts.

Speaking of weaving, remember when I first discovered bitcoin? That sense of unearthing something groundbreaking? Roam evokes that same feeling.

So, what’s your second brain? Why? And if you haven’t found one yet, isn’t it time you did?

Jump in, give Roam a spin, and let's discuss. Would love to hear your insights!

I’ll start to make short videos on how I use roam to help you get started. Stay tuned…

AI is Insane

This is an AI generated image of Sathvik, Mars, Bitcoin and Unocoin. WTF?!

I recently had the opportunity to experiment with chat.openai.com, and I have to say, it's amazing! I had a similar feeling when I first used Bitcoin about ten years ago. I thought to myself, "AI is here." Bitcoin is a form of AI, and when I drove my Tesla Model X on auto-pilot a few years ago, I felt the same way. You can also feel the presence of AI in a Google search when it starts to guess what you're thinking, and in software such as Copy.ai, Grammarly, and many other tools we use daily.

But chat.openai.com is something else entirely. It's touching on something even more profound: general AI. Once you play around with it, you'll see what I mean. Sam Altman and his team recently released GPT-3, a language model powered by AI, and Microsoft recently invested nearly a billion dollars in it. One of the first public demonstrations of this technology is chat.openai.com. It's impressive, and I haven't been this impressed in a long time.

Here are some examples of what I've been asking this AI:

ME: Provide me with an optimal daily routine that models itself after the top 100 most successful people in the world:

GPT3: It is difficult to provide a single optimal daily routine that models itself after the top 100 most successful people in the world because people have different definitions of success and different schedules and habits that work for them. However, here is a possible daily routine that incorporates some common habits and practices among successful people:

  1. Wake up early. Many successful people start their day early, often before 6:00 AM. This allows them to get a head start on their tasks and avoid the distractions and interruptions of the day.

  2. Exercise and meditate. Successful people often prioritize their physical and mental health by incorporating regular exercise and meditation into their daily routine. This can help them stay focused, energized, and resilient.

  3. Plan and prioritize. Successful people often plan their day in advance and prioritize their tasks based on importance and urgency. This allows them to focus on the most important tasks and avoid getting overwhelmed by competing demands.

  4. Work in focused blocks. Successful people often use focused blocks of time, also known as "deep work," to concentrate on their most important tasks without interruptions. They may use tools such as time-blocking, the Pomodoro Technique, or distraction-blocking software to help them stay focused.

  5. Take breaks and recharge. Successful people also recognize the importance of taking regular breaks and recharging their batteries.

ME: tell me a really cool story about the future of unocoin and how we not only become a trillion dollar company but we also help take humanity to mars and build phones and spaceships along the way

GPT3: As a language model trained by OpenAI, I do not have specific information about Unocoin or its future plans, so I am not able to provide a story about the company's future. However, here is a possible story about how a technology company could become a trillion dollar company and help take humanity to Mars:

In the year 2040, Unocoin had become a leading technology company, known for its innovative products and services in the fields of cryptocurrency, space exploration, and telecommunications. The company had grown from a small startup in India to a global powerhouse, with a market valuation of over one trillion dollars.

Unocoin's success was based on its pioneering work in developing advanced blockchain technologies that enabled fast and secure transactions in a variety of applications, from online commerce to space travel. The company had also developed a new type of smartphone that could be used on Earth and in space, allowing astronauts and space travelers to stay connected to their friends, families, and colleagues on the ground.

In addition to its commercial products, Unocoin was also heavily involved in the international effort to establish a human presence on Mars. The company had built a state-of-the-art space facility on the Martian surface, where scientists and engineers were working on a range of projects, from growing crops and generating oxygen to building new spaceships and habitats.

Unocoin's efforts on Mars were supported by its advanced manufacturing capabilities, which allowed the company to produce high-quality and reliable space vehicles, robots, and other equipment that could withstand the harsh conditions of the Martian environment. The company's space products had become essential for the exploration and colonization of Mars, and Unocoin had become a key player in the global space industry.

ME: write me a cool poem about two friends sunny and sathvik who met in bangalore and went on to build unocoin, india's first bitcoin platform. Unocoin evolves into uno, which becomes the everything app for India! We become the search engine, crypto exchange and broker, browser, social media, etc. everything app. the last word in every line rhymes

GPT3: Here is a possible poem about Sunny and Sathvik, the founders of Unocoin, who went on to build India's first bitcoin platform and evolved it into Uno, the everything app for India:

Sunny and Sathvik, two friends from Bangalore,
Met at a meetup and shared a common goal,
To build a platform that would change the game,
And bring bitcoin to India for the first time.

They worked tirelessly, day and night,
Developing their idea and perfecting their design,
And when Unocoin was finally launched,
It quickly became a hit with the public.

But Sunny and Sathvik didn't stop there,
They continued to innovate and improve,
And soon Unocoin evolved into Uno,
The everything app that India needed to move.

With Uno, you could do it all,
Search, browse, chat, trade, and more,
Everything you wanted in one app,
Uno became the go-to for Indian folks.

Sunny and Sathvik's vision was realized,
Uno was a success and India's pride,
And as they looked back on their journey,
They knew that their friendship would always abide.

This is just one possible poem about Sunny and Sathvik, the founders of Unocoin and Uno. Poetry is a creative form of writing, so feel free to use this as a starting point and modify it as you see fit.

Blown away yet? This is nothing! I was messing around this morning by asking GPT3 to auto-generate python code to build a website that connects to openai’s API! If you’re interesting in this stuff, drop me an email to contact@sunnyray.com.

Writing is Therapy

I recently concluded that writing IS therapy.

I also realized that we could leverage tools such as Grammarly and copy.ai to help accelerate the writing process.

It's never been easier to get our ideas out there.

I wrote a blog about my relationship with my wife yesterday and how we're about to hit our 10th anniversary.

Not only did she read the blog, she told me that her cousin in Colombia started crying after reading it!

So what does that mean? I can sit in front of a keyboard and monitor, type a bunch of words, post it on my blog and a few hours later, it can touch people on the other side of planet earth.

That is simply fascinating.

Forget making money and bitcoin and all of that for a moment. That's all gravy.

Just the fact that I was able to touch another person's heart by sharing a few words on my blog is mind-blowing.

So if that's possible, what else is possible if I committed to writing every_single_day?

Where may this adventure take me? Who may I meet because of it? Who may I begin to impact that I already know? How may my writings serve others?

Are there essential lessons in my life that I can continue sharing with my "audience" that will impact how they view the world? Perhaps.

However, if I'm being open with myself, it's not even about impacting others. Writing is a selfish act—an act of therapy.

A way to stand back from my internal dialogue. A way to converse with me without being viewed as insane. It's a way of talking through problems and challenges. It's a way of helping yourself get out of your mind and into the world.

"You are writing primarily to please yourself, and if you go about it with enjoyment you will also entertain the readers who are worth writing for." (William Zinsser, On Writing Well)

Do you journal? If not, you should try it. It's a great practice that has served me well over the years. What about journaling publicly? Isn't that what blogging is?

Writing regularly and often also helps me to understand the world more deeply. Before even publishing a thought, I have to sit and think about what others may or may not find interesting.

How do I create evergreen content?

How do I avoid the whole copy/pasta game?

I mean, for the longest time, I was afraid to write. I feared what might happen if I put my thoughts out there. What if I get in trouble or people hate what I'm saying? Then what?

Then recently came across this saying that it's essential to not think about content creation. Instead, the secret is to focus more on documenting the process.

And so, that's what I'm doing during these daily writings. I don't even plan to share most of these posts over my social media because it doesn't even feel like it's worth sharing.

What I will continue doing, however, is that I'll keep writing. So for those few of you who are reading this, thanks! Please give me feedback on what topics you want me to write about. My main subject is "building on bitcoin," but we can wander in other directions, given that building on bitcoin has more to do with how you live than any tactical advice I can provide.

Create Content < Document Process

Lately, I've decided that I'd like to write more. Way more.

I feel that writing is a process that helps me to think more clearly. Forcing myself to write regularly in a public forum such as this website will focus my attention on the relevant topics of the day.

I've been reading many great books lately and having incredible experiences. I want to document this process by writing more and creating more independent video content where I speak directly to the camera and my audience instead of simply doing interviews.

I think what's been stopping me from creating more content is I always feel like I need to create content where I teach the audience something. It's not like that at all. I have nothing to teach. I'm only here to share with people my journey and give you a peek into my process.

I know that most people will not take any interest in my writing. But a few people will. For those people, I want to allow them to understand how I think and feel and work. By doing so, I’ll open myself up to feedback and criticism that will help me improve. It will also help me become more relevant on the web.

Ten years from now, I look forward to assessing how this decision today to write daily has changed my life. Who knows? Maybe it won’t. Maybe it will prove to be an utter waste of time. But I’ll only know if I try. Right?

I’ll be blogging here regularly, and I've also begun a weekly newsletter where I’ll be sharing “The Top Ten Tips and Tools on How to Build a Bitcoin Business.” It will be about the things I thing are relevant for you to know each week.

The blog here will be the focus of my regular writing and will contain my best ideas and work. I’m also introducing a members only area for subscribers who wish to gain some additional tips and tools along with a more in depth view into how I build a bitcoin company. This new subscription will be a way for people to support my work and buy me a coffee or bubble tea or something!

You'll see me shifting my focus towards documenting the process of how I'm building Unocoin. We've been at it since 2012, nearly ten years, and we've done many incredible things. But this is only the beginning. I'm now speaking with you directly. You. Yes, you. The person who has been watching from the sidelines.

I'm here to answer any of your questions.

Bitcoin presents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate in a revolution like no other. For the past ten years, I've been 100% immersed in building one of the world's top bitcoin companies. I've also consulted hundreds of top-tier financial firms on how to build on bitcoin. Companies will pay me thousands of dollars per hour for this information, and I'm now turning around and giving it to you so you can build your business without having to endure the nearly ten years of hardships I had.

What's Next? Massive Growth!

Unocoin is India’s first and best bitcoin platform. We launched our service back in 2013, received our first round of investment from Barry Silbert by 2014, took on the central bank in the supreme court, won, and most recently closed a round of financing for our series A led by Tim Draper. We have the best bitcoin investors in the world!

The bitcoin and crypto market is hot! Whether you look at Coinbase and their $100B valuation after going public. Or you take a look at India and companies such as Coinswitch and CoinDCX, who recently raised at an impressive $2B and $1B valuation, respectively, the writing is now on the wall. Bitcoin is here to stay.

We remain at an exciting crossroads. The heavy burden of being first to market led us to take many arrows in the back. These challenges did not stop us, but they did slow us down. In the wake of our victory, others have taken a momentary lead on some fronts. We’ll make up this ground and more, not to worry.

These companies have proven that there is, in fact, a great demand for bitcoin and crypto-assets. Some thought leaders have indicated that the bitcoin industry can surpass $100 Trillion in the years ahead.

What’s stopping Unocoin from becoming a $200 Billion company? Nothing! Well, maybe one small thing: massive growth! So, how do we drive growth? Systematically and scientifically! That’s how.

Right now, Unocoin is building up an ‘Avengers of Growth’ Team comprised of new hires, consultants, advisors and top agencies. The goal of this team is to initiate and execute a barrage of growth ideas and start testing them out in the field. The science of growth is no longer a mystery. Many have studied it intensely and have helped companies such as Facebook and Uber to grow and take market share at an accelerating rate.

We’re currently putting together our growth and marketing team that will embark upon a significant journey. If you’re interested in speaking with us about joining our team, please send an email to sunny@unocoin.com.
